National energy strategies cannot succeed in isolation. A clear European vision and close coordination between regulatory authorities and industry is needed to create a competitive, secure and sustainable Europe. Political representatives will have an exchange with industry leaders of some of the market’s top players on why fuel cells and hydrogen are necessary for a joint European approach.

Geographies such as North America, Japan and Korea are progressing quickly with development and market introduction of advanced FCH applications. The H2USA initiative launched in May 2013, deployment of stationary applications in Japan or production of FCEVs in Korea are among leading examples. What lessons can be learned from these projects? What is the status of H2Mobility,Europe’s leading deployment initiative? To ensure its competitiveness, does Europe need to change gear and boost its FCH policy?

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking launched in 2008 has provided a unique platform for cooperation, investment stability and - with a budget of almost €1 billion - funding support for circa 150 projects. What are the main results of this effort? Key flagship projects? A high-level summary will be presented by the FCH JU Executive Director, followed by reports from the FCH JU Review Days 2013 and an exchange with stakeholders in the audience.

The European Commission has proposed a regulation to continue the FCH JU activities under Horizon 2020. Based on a strong commitment of the public and public stakeholders as well as the research community, the new programme will provide a strong push towards deployment of a portfolio of fuel cells and hydrogen solutions. What are the principles and strategic priorities of this renewed programme? Where will this take Europe by 2020? Members of the partnership will present their joint vision for 2020.
