The Clean Hydrogen JU, through the involvement and commitment of its partners, will enhance cooperation between the diverse stakeholders along the whole hydrogen value-chain and mobilise them to increase the leverage effect of R&I for investments, with the main objectives to:

  1. Contribute to the EU ambitious 2030 and 2050 climate ambition
  2. Support the implementation of the Commission’s Hydrogen Strategy
  3. Strengthen the competitiveness of the Union clean hydrogen value chain
  4. Stimulate research and innovation on clean hydrogen production, distribution, storage and end use applications

To achieve this, the Clean Hydrogen JU will need to improve through research and innovation the technology characteristics of hydrogen applications developed in the Union, strengthen the knowledge and capacity of scientific and industrial sectors along the value chain, carry out demonstrations of clean hydrogen solutions and increase their public and private awareness.

In parallel, as part of the common objectives of all joint undertakings, the Clean Hydrogen JU activities will aim to strengthen and integrate the Union’s scientific and technological capacities to support the creation and diffusion of new high-quality knowledge notably with a view to deliver on global challenges, securing Union competitiveness, sustainability and contributing to a reinforced European Research Area. They will secure the sustainability-driven global leadership and resilience of EU value chains in hydrogen technologies, while also developing and accelerating the uptake of innovative solutions that aim to address critical for the EU societal and global challenges, contributing to EU strategic priorities.
