Description
The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre is organising a one-day online workshop on the decarbonisation of heavy goods vehicle transport.
If our society is to undergo full decarbonisation by 2050 then this must also be achieved by the transport sector. In this regard, road freight is deemed to be particularly difficult. Technologies that could lead to full decarbonisation on the road are: Hydrogen fuel cells, Batteries and Caternary/Pantograph.
The purpose of this online workshop will be to consider which of the options has the highest potential of environmental benefit, identify challenges (and solutions) for these technologies and consider the infrastructure developments that will be needed in each case. The emphasis of the presentations will be on Technical Readiness and cover the most recent Life Cycle Assessment / Well-to-Wheel studies of each of the options. Furthermore, the relative costs of each technology option and the associated infrastructure requirements will be considered.
