State of the clean H2Valleys 2026

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership has published the State of the Clean Hydrogen Valleys Sector 2026 report, offering a comprehensive overview of the development of Hydrogen Valleys in a challenging but advancing clean hydrogen market.

Based on insights from the Hydrogen Valley Platform, which now features 106 Hydrogen Valleys worldwide, the report shows that the sector continues to move from ambition to implementation. While clean hydrogen projects are facing persistent challenges linked to policy uncertainty, project economics, funding and offtake, Hydrogen Valleys are demonstrating resilience thanks to their integrated approach, bringing together production, transport and end use within coordinated local and regional ecosystems.

The report highlights that the share of operational Hydrogen Valleys on the H2V Platform has doubled since 2024, from 9% to 18%, while projects at or beyond Final Investment Decision now represent 37% of the portfolio. In Europe, Hydrogen Valleys account for around 400 MW of operational electrolyser capacity, underlining their role as key building blocks for the clean hydrogen sector.

For the first time, the report also includes a market sentiment survey among Hydrogen Valley developers. The findings point to strong long-term confidence in hydrogen, while confirming that demand creation, financing mechanisms and regulatory certainty remain critical to bringing more projects to Final Investment Decision.

The report also sets out key success factors for Hydrogen Valley developers, policymakers and investors, and presents the role of the Hydrogen Valley Facility in supporting projects through the Hydrogen Valley Platform, capacity-building activities and tailored Project Development Assistance.
