EUH2STARS: Accelerating Knowledge Transfer to Enable Replication Across Europe

  • 29 June 2026

A core objective of the EUH2STARS project, aligned with the Clean Hydrogen Partnership's mission to accelerate the deployment of innovative hydrogen technologies, is to ensure effective knowledge transfer from the demonstrator site to the replicator sites. By validating the conversion of existing underground natural gas storage facilities into hydrogen storage, the project will generate technical, operational, safety, and regulatory knowledge that can be transferred across Europe to facilitate large-scale replication.

This knowledge transfer will support the integration of underground hydrogen storage into the future European hydrogen infrastructure, reducing deployment risks and accelerating market uptake. The table below presents an overview of the key characteristics of the RAG demonstrator site in Rubensdorf (Austria) and the planned replicator sites in Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Spain, illustrating their potential to replicate the project's outcomes under diverse geological and operational conditions.
