FLEX4H2 has achieved a major milestone by demonstrating its Gen2 sequential combustion system can operate stably across the full fuel range, from natural gas to 100% hydrogen. Recent high-pressure tests confirmed that pure hydrogen combustion is feasible at full engine pressure. This breakthrough validates the project’s innovative hardware designs and the successful implementation of new ignition procedures. The consortium is now moving into the Gen3 development phase to further optimize firing temperatures and maximize operational efficiency. These results represent a decisive step toward hydrogen-ready gas turbines, supporting a carbon-free and sustainable energy future for Europe.
